Australian ticketing data offered for sale on breach forum

The data purporting to come from Australian ticket provider TEG was put up for sale on a website, with the poster asking US$30,000 (A$45,032) for the entire lot.

The data would include, among other things, users’ name, gender, company, date of birth, username and hashed password. It was published on June 20.

The theft of the data was recognized by TEG on May 31 in a detailed note who said the data was stolen from a third-party provider.

“Ticketek has implemented secure encryption methods for all passwords and no Ticketek customer accounts have been compromised,” the company said.

“Additionally, Ticketek uses secure encryption methods for online payments and uses a separate system to process online payments, which has not been affected. Ticketek does not hold identity documents for its customers.

“Since our third-party vendor brought this issue to our attention, over the past few days we have worked diligently to bring all resources to bear to complete an investigation so that we can communicate with customers who may have affected, as well as other stakeholders, as quickly as possible. .

“The evidence available at this time indicates that, from a privacy perspective, customers’ names, dates of birth and email addresses may have been affected.”

Ticketek’s US site was reportedly compromised by the theft of credentials from a data storage provider known as Snowflake.

A number of companies whose data was similarly compromised have now been affected by requests for money.

iTWire contacted TEG to inquire about the exact business relationship it has with Ticketek.
