Kansas City police open soft room for trauma victims

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police have opened a new interrogation room to help trauma victims. They call it a “soft room.”

The transformation includes new furniture, rugs, softer paints and artwork.

Currently, police often interview victims in the same rooms where they interview suspects.

“Understanding the needs of the people we’re talking to and trying to support them with a little more compassion, which may have been considered at one point,” said Tire Grant of the Police Foundation of Kansas City.

A Texas organization called Project Beloved is leading efforts to install soft rooms across the country.
