Senator Rosen and Congressman Amodei Introduce Bill to End Offshoring of Postal Facilities | News

Nevada Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen and Republican Congressman Mark Amodei have come together to try to thwart USPS plans to shift outgoing mail processing to Sacramento.

According to a statement from Senator Rosen’s office, the two men introduced bipartisan legislation in both houses of Congress to prevent the U.S. Postal Service from moving forward with this move.

The bill would prevent the closure, consolidation or downsizing of a processing and distribution center if the Postal Service has already failed to meet its on-time delivery standards, as the release in Reno claims.

This would only authorize the changes if the USPS received an advisory opinion from the Postal Regulatory Commission finding that the proposed changes would not negatively impact mail delivery service standards and performance measures, in taking into account factors such as geography, including mountain passes.

The bill would also allow the public to appeal closures, consolidations, and workforce reductions proposed by the USPS and would prevent such decisions from moving forward until the appeal is heard and decided.
