BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Brevard Public Schools officials unveiled a five-year expansion plan for their career and technical education (CTE) programs at the June 18 school board workshop.

This plan aims to introduce 18 new CTE programs to Brevard County aimed at improving educational opportunities and preparing students for the workforce.

A Brevard Public Schools spokesperson said there are plans to add new programs to include agricultural operations, machining, artificial intelligence, firefighting, diesel maintenance, natural resources, advanced manufacturing, electricity, culinary arts and advanced aerospace technologies, in partnership with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. and Florida Institute of Technology, emergency medical responder, JROTC in partnership with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, aeronautical assembly and manufacturing, space mechatronics, patient care support and engineering design.

Discussions are also underway to bring CTE programs to Westshore Jr./Sr. High School, making CTE offerings available to students at all Brevard Public Schools high schools.

Rachel Rutledge, director of career and technical education, highlighted the anticipated impact of this expansion.

“Through this initiative, our CTE programs equip Brevard Public Schools graduates with the essential skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow,” Rutledge said.

“Families will now have a range of options to prepare their students for college and career opportunities within our public school system. We are excited about the growth and evolution of our programs, especially as they relate to advancements specific to the Space Coast.

Currently, Brevard Public Schools offers more than 111 CTE programs in 15 of its 16 public schools, including Brevard Virtual School.

Career and technical education programs provide opportunities and incentives for students, including internships, on-the-job high school credits, certifications, and direct hire opportunities.

Partnerships with major community organizations provide students with knowledge and skills that can be directly applied to the needs of the local workforce.

“This expansion amplifies Brevard Public Schools’ commitment to preparing students for success in career paths and offering those that closely match the dynamic demands of industry and the growth of the Space Coast,” said a door -spokesperson of the BPS.

“As CTE programs continue to evolve, they continually contribute to prosperity in Brevard County and give students the tools to succeed in their futures.”
