What to expect if snow falls until the end of the week

DENVER (KDVR) — Almost one meters of snow fell last night through Wednesday in parts of Colorado. While it’s storming expect it to subside by eveninganother storm is moving into the state and could last until the end of the week.

A Determine the weather warning day was issued Wednesday due to slippery, cluttered conditions in metro Denver and in the mountains. Two more Pinpoint Weather Alert Days were issued on Thursday and Friday for additional snow and rain that could continue through Saturday morning.

The Pinpoint Weather team is still monitoring the storm and determining the storm’s timing and totals. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said weather models are showing different outcomes close to the storm, making it difficult to predict.

Time

Snow will continue to fall through Wednesday afternoon and taper off overnight across most of metro Denver and the north.

However, the southern metro and Palmer Divide will continue to see light snow Thursday morning through noon. Denver could also see some flakes after sunrise.

The storm should pick up again Friday afternoon for the metro and Palmer Divide, with the storm being at its strongest on Saturday morning.

Temperatures should reach close to 60 degrees by Sunday, allowing some snow to melt in the metro and along the canyon.

Totals

Across the metro area, some areas have already received up to a foot of snow, while other places received only a few inches.

How much snow fell in Denver’s first measurable storm?

It’s still snowing, but the metro is expected to remain under half a meter of snow on Wednesday. Other areas in Colorado, such as El Paso, Fremont and Elbert counties, are expected to receive the most amount of snow, which should remain under a foot.

There won’t be much accumulation Thursday, and the northern metro shouldn’t see many more flakes on the ground.

More snow will fall Friday, but models are making totals unpredictable as of Wednesday morning. Michels expects at most a few inches to be collected in Colorado on Friday and Saturday.

What to expect

There are already one some crashes on Wednesday morning. While roads should be clear by the end of the day, Michels said Thursday could be another potentially treacherous morning drive with cold temperatures and snow already on the ground.

That said, there won’t be high snow amounts on Thursday and road conditions should improve after the morning.

The big impact could happen Friday, when the heaviest snow is expected to fall Friday evening and Saturday morning. Michels said anyone heading to southern Colorado should beware of delays and possible icy spots.

Michels said he had to get closer to the storm for up-to-date forecasts.
