Jets absence of Aaron Rodgers will be a ‘big distraction’ in the locker room

Fox Sports NFL analyst Julian Edelman said Aaron Rodgers’ absence from the Jets’ mandatory minicamp was “a bad look” during an appearance on FS1’s “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” Friday.

The former Patriots wide receiver discussed the impact Rodgers’ unexcused absence could have in the locker room, especially if the team has a rough start to the season.

Rodgers didn’t show up for minicamp last week because he was attending an “event,” according to Jets coach Robert Saleh.

“God forbid the New York Jets start 1-3 in the season…” Edelman said. “If they go 1-3, it’s going to be a big distraction for this locker room. Because everyone will talk about it. We are in New York, the media capital of the world.

“And you can’t tell me, I’m a huge Aaron Rodgers fan, but if I was in that locker room and Aaron Rodgers wasn’t there for three days during mandatory mini-camps… After playing four snaps on an injury when we have two new receivers and a bunch of new linemen we’ve added to the team – with a CBA that doesn’t allow us to practice much – I guarantee he There’s four or five guys – six, seven, eight, nine guys in that locker room sitting there wondering, “Where is he?”

But even though the Jets are off to a successful start, Edelman isn’t a fan of Rodgers’ actions, especially after his years with Tom Brady, who played 23 seasons in the league. Edelman said that even when Brady passed the two-decade mark in his career, he may have missed some OTAs, but never missed a mandatory minicamp.

“Now if they start 4-0, no one will care, but it’s the NFL,” Edelman said. “I think it’s a bad idea for your boss, whatever the reason, to miss an unexcused absence.”
