Gautam Gambhir finally breaks silence on prospects of becoming India’s next head coach, says ‘don’t see…’

Gautam Gambhir finally reacted to the possibility of becoming India’s next head coach at an event organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. Former opener Gautam Gambhir has evaded questions over whether he could occupy the coveted position in the Indian cricket team. He said he wasn’t “looking that far ahead” but shared his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes a “team first ideology.” Gambhir, who recently played an instrumental role as a mentor in KKR’s third IPL title win, spoke during a virtual interview with the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee earlier in the week. Many consider him the leading candidate to succeed current head coach Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ends after the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite his recent achievements as a team mentor, contributing significantly to KKR’s third IPL title win, Gambhir refused to speculate on his chances of becoming India’s head coach. India’s new head coach is expected to take charge of the senior men’s team on July 1, right after the T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean. The appointment for this position is expected to last until December 31, 2027.
