Moment prisoner escapes captured by police infrared camera

Colorado State Troopers used infrared imaging technology to recapture an escaped inmate near Colorado Springs on June 7, the State Patrol said.

Footage released by the Colorado State Patrol shows the recapture of Kegan VanVliet, who had escaped from the Fremont County Jail that day.

The 45-year-old man was taken into custody after attempting to shoot his wife, the state patrol said.

Shortly before midnight Friday, a plane with infrared imaging technology was dispatched to the area near Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road. Following a tip from a civilian, VanVliet was seen walking away from a location where he had been reported.

The flight team was able to track and record VanVliet’s recapture by ground teams.
