Joe Biden gaffes caught on camera are ‘cheap fakes,’ White House says in desperate defense

The White House has claimed that videos of Joe Biden’s public blunders were heavily photoshopped and constituted “cheap fakes.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused Republicans of sharing edited videos to demean Biden, who is expected to face his predecessor Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.

In response, Republicans rejected the White House’s claims and said the videos had not been doctored.

A cheap fake takes real video footage and edits it to change the context in order to mislead the viewer. They only require basic editing software and can therefore be made quickly and easily, unlike deepfakes which use artificial intelligence.

Recent viral moments of Biden’s freeze, which Jean-Pierre says have been edited, include the president’s trip to Normandy for the anniversary of the landings, a G7 summit in Italy and a fundraising event with Barack Obama .

“Ironically, several cheap fakes attack the president for thanking the troops. This is why they are attacking the President,” Jean-Pierre said.

“Both in Normandy and in Italy, this happened. It tells you everything you need to know about the desperation of Republicans here. Instead of focusing on the president’s performance in office, his legislative victories and what he has done for the American people, we are seeing these deep fakes, these manipulated videos made in bad faith.

In a viral clip, Biden attempted to sit in a chair that wasn’t there during a memorial service for the Normandy landings.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the 81-year-old president was captured walking away from other world leaders at a G7 summit. As the group posed for photos, Biden walked away before Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni brought him back.

He also froze while on stage at a Juneteenth celebration at the White House. It wasn’t until Philonise Floyd, brother of the late George Floyd, finally noticed the pause and placed her arm around him in an apparent effort to help him, which brought the 81-year-old man out of his stupor .

Most recently, Biden appeared to freeze on stage during a fundraiser for his re-election bid. The 81-year-old was seen waving and giving a thumbs up to the audience before suddenly stopping and staring at the crowd for an extended period of time.

Former President Obama intervened and took Biden by the arm, which seemed to snap him out of his freeze.

The White House encouraged people to watch the videos for their entire duration to form their own opinions.

In a recent gaffe, Biden appeared to confuse Russian and Chinese presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in an interview with Time magazine where he discussed key policy points.

A recent Justice Department report claimed that Biden had “diminished faculties” and “poor memory”.

The report, written by special counsel Robert Hur, who spoke with the president about classified documents, describes the 81-year-old as an “older, well-meaning man.”

The report said: “It would be difficult to convince a jury that it should convict him – then a former president over 80 years old – of a serious crime that requires a mental state of will. »

Hur said he decided not to accuse Biden of mishandling documents — which related to China and Ukraine, respectively — in part because of his “poor memory.”

The White House previously said Hur’s comments on the president’s memory were “gratuitous” and “inappropriate.”
