55-year-old man struck and killed by vehicle in Escondido

A 55-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday in Escondido, police officials said.

The incident was reported just before 5:30 a.m. on Via Rancho Parkway near the Westfield North County Mall.

Police arrived on scene and found a man undergoing CPR by bystanders, officials said in a news release. Officers continued CPR, but the man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the man was crossing the highway when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car remained at the scene and no drugs or alcohol are believed to have been present.

The pedestrian’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
