Caroline Wozniacki will meet her “nightmare” rival in the first round in Bad Homburg

Caroline Wozniacki didn’t have much luck with her draw in Bad Homburg as the former world number 1 is set to make her debut at the German WTA 500 grass court tournament by facing Elina Svitolina, who is one of his most delicate adversaries.

After being knocked out 4-6 1-6 by Elise Mertens in the first round in Birmingham earlier this week, Wozniacki returned to the practice field and began preparing for her second grass-court tournament in Bad Homburg.

But once again, Wozniacki got off to a rocky start as meeting No. 7 seed Svitolina is something the 33-year-old Dane would probably wish would happen in the latter stages of the tournament. Additionally, what makes this match very tricky for Wozniacki is the fact that she has only beaten Svitolina once in their previous six meetings.

However, it’s worth noting that none of their first six meetings were on grass – all were on hard courts.

Wozniacki lost to Svitolina in Auckland earlier this year

After ending his retirement last summer, Wozniacki faced Svitolina in the first round in Auckland on January 2. In the match nicknamed “the battle of the moms”, Svitolina won with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Afterwards, Wozniacki blamed his defeat on missed opportunities. In the first set, the 33-year-old Dane led 4-3 and served before suffering back-to-back breaks and also missing three break points in the ninth game.

After losing the first set and also falling following an early break in the second set, Wozniacki managed to regain the break, but she lost her serve again in the eighth game – and lost the match after failing to convert a break point in the next match. game, the game in which Svitolina served for victory.

“I can’t expect to win a set when I’ve led so many games in a row and I’m not taking my chances. That’s what’s disappointing and that’s what I need to learn from. To see what I did in those moments and step up next time,” Wozniacki said after her loss to Svitolina in Auckland.

It remains to be seen whether Wozniacki can take revenge on Svitolina on the Eastbourne pitch.
