BJP’s Sambit Patra questions bloc leaders’ silence INDIA

New Delhi: Terming the Tamil Nadu tragedy as “murders” of innocent people, the BJP on Sunday questioned the INDIA bloc’s “silence” on the issue. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said the “silence” of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is “striking”.

“If more than 32 Dalits are killed in this country, I would call it murder, it is not death. Many parties are remaining silent only because they think that raising this issue is not in their political interest,” Patra said during a press briefing at the party headquarters.

The spurious liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu has so far claimed the lives of 56 people and over 193 people have been admitted to various government medical institutions.

“56 people have died and many are in critical condition. Around 200 people are hospitalized. This is a very important issue, but I am surprised that Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, DMK and all members of the INDI alliance are remaining silent on this issue,” he said.

“All these parties remain silent because their political interests are not satisfied,” he added.
