Catherine Zeta-Jones has listed her house for million |

Effortlessly classic and eternally elegant: all words are often used to describe actress Catherine Zeta-Jones – so it’s only fitting that her house follows suit.

Appointed Longpré, the home of Irvington’s exclusive Matthiessen Park is a quintessential Hudson River estate owned by Chicago actress and her husband (and Hollywood counterpart) Michael Douglas. However, after many years as a family home, the couple recently listed Longmeadow for $12 million.

Situated amid 12 acres of open property, listing agents Compass say their home is “perfectly positioned to capture the beauty of the land and water.” The couple have painstakingly restored interiors that master a monochromatic color palette that is both modern and classic – but arguably, nothing highlights this like their living room.

This isn’t the first time we’ve written a love letter to Douglas and Zeta Jones’ neutral living room – specifically about how they use the principle of contrasting design. Their white and cream furniture juxtaposes dark chocolate flooring and natural wood and black accents to create a striking color palette seen throughout the home.

Cream walls flow into cream curtains that open to large paneled windows that fill the space with natural light (and look especially bright against the glossy floor), while details like the paint on the wall add a elegant artistic touch to the room. And, with such a beautiful result, it’s no surprise why they continue to use this same design principle in almost every other room in their home.

With more than 11,000 square feet on four levels, the home includes eight en-suite bedrooms and twelve bathrooms, many of which are black and white or feature a calming neutral color palette. A 30-foot gallery leads to perfectly proportioned public rooms that combine formal and informal living and entertaining, including an expansive dining room and modern kitchen.

Another notable feature is the first floor loggia which opens onto a 100 foot outdoor terrace facing west towards the river with a staircase leading to the garden. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a summer evening away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan (the city is easily accessible, however).
