Barnabas Varga: Hungarian FA offer update after star rushed to hospital following horror collision

Hungarian striker Barnabas Varga was involved in a horrific collision during his country’s crucial 1-0 win over Scotland on Sunday night and the National Football Association has now clarified the situation.

Barnabas Varga was taken to hospital following the incident.

The Hungarian FA says distressed star Barnabas Varga is stable after his horror collision against Scotland.

The Ferencvaros striker was involved in a horrific incident during Sunday night’s key clash in Stuttgart. He collided heavily with Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Varga received lengthy treatment on the field behind screens, before being stretchered onto the field. The Hungarian FA have now offered a promising update on the 29-year-old’s welfare.

Shortly after the match, a statement read: “The condition of Barnabás Varga is stable! The Ferencvaros player is currently in one of the hospitals in Stuttgart! We will inform you immediately if there is any news about his condition! ”

The incident left Varga’s Hungarian teammate and Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai in tears. The collision led to ten minutes of injury time in Stuttgart on Sunday.

Scotland goalkeeper Gunn also gave his thoughts on the incident also needing treatment. Speaking to the BBC, he said: “It was a bit blurry. It was a bit painful and I hope the guy is OK. I don’t really remember much about that one .”

The BBC was also forced to issue an apology shortly after the incident. A replay of the incident was shown live on television, but presenter Gabby Logan insisted it was not the network’s decision.

She said: “There are protocols after the Christian Eriksen incident, we were very surprised that UEFA chose to show this replay, that’s why we cut it as soon as possible.”
