Qantas to roll out French-inspired menus

Qantas will roll out classic French-inspired menus, limited-edition pajamas and amenity kits as it prepares to launch new direct services between Perth, Australia and Paris from next month.

Taking off on July 12, Qantas will be the only airline to offer direct flights between Perth and Paris, adding more than 75,000 seats between Australia and Europe each year.

Catriona Larritt, Qantas Group chief customer and digital officer, said the new onboard items created for Paris flights will kick off European summer holidays for customers as soon as they board the plane.

“Our new direct flights from Perth to Paris will shave around three hours off the current fastest journey time between the two cities and are set to be very popular, particularly during the busy summer months.

“We know how much our customers love our signature pajamas and relaxing with a drink and a meal when they travel with us, so we are delighted to launch these bespoke initiatives to give them a taste of the City of Lights before their landing.”

Martin Grant Pajamas and Amenity Kits

Chic, limited-edition pajamas with matching French-inspired amenity kits will be offered to business class customers traveling on the new Paris route.

Created by Australian designer Martin Grant, these navy blue pajamas represent the journey between Australia and France.

Martin Grant said Paris was the fashion capital of the world and his love for the city made this collaboration with Qantas particularly special.

“After living in Paris for 30 years, direct Perth-Paris flights will make it easy to travel from one home to another. I was delighted to be able to team up with Qantas again to create the pajamas and amenity kit to celebrate these new flights and the simplicity of French design.

French menu prepared by Neil Perry

Customers traveling on the new flights will be treated to popular French classics selected by Neil Perry, Qantas Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service.

Red snapper and shrimp bouillabaisse from Skull Island; chicken and tarragon pithivier with onion puree; and chocolate mousse, pears poached in caramel, almonds and whipped cream; will be served to celebrate the start of the new Parisian flights.

Following a recent overhaul of the national airline’s spirits menu, a French 75 cocktail will be available on Parisian flights for Business Class customers. This festive French classic combines gin, lemon and sparkling wine to create a lively, sparkling and refreshing aperitif during onboard service.

Qantas creative director of food, beverage and service Neil Perry said the new dishes pay homage to the great qualities of French cuisine.

“French cuisine is made up of so many amazing classic dishes that we spent a lot of time developing a menu that captures the balance between the richness and freshness of French flavors while maintaining an element of familiarity that our guests love.

French bistro favorites including crème caramel and goat cheese salad with walnut vinaigrette will also be available in select Qantas First and Business lounges across Australia.

Qantas French Menu Highlights:

  • Beef fillet, apple puree, snow peas and Café de Paris butter.
  • Fresh tuna niçoise salad with olives, green beans and lemon vinaigrette.
  • Coq au vin with pancetta, mushrooms, mashed potatoes and snow peas.
  • Duck and pistachio pie, pickles, radishes and watercress.
  • Rum savarin, berries and whipped cream
