Like the news of Donald Trump‘S presidential victory permeates the world, famous names from film, TV, music and science are sharing their reactions on social media.

Trump, who becomes the first convicted felon to become president of the United States, defeated the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the race. As it stands, he has received more than 71 million votes and won 277 electoral votes, compared to Harris’ 224.

So which celebrities have reacted to Trump’s victory – and what did they say?

Take to Instagramthe Academy Award-winning actress expressed her concerns about Trump’s victory to her 6 million followers. “It means a certain return to a much more restrictive, some fear draconian, time. Many fear that their rights will be obstructed and denied,” the 65-year-old wrote. “Many minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and transgender people will be more afraid. We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive health care they need and deserve. For all those people, there will be people who will help you. Me, too.”

Curtis then encouraged her followers to “wake up and fight,” albeit “one protest at a time.”

Although he supported the Democratic Party in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Tesla was CEO and billionaire Musk became a feverish supporter of Trump’s 2024 campaign after lashing out at President Biden several times during his presidency.

The 53-year-old and the richest man in the world posted his reaction to Trump’s lead and predicted victory over X, of which he is CEO. “The American people tonight gave @realDonaldTrump a crystal clear mandate for change,” Musk wrote. “The future is going to be amazing,” he continued, accompanied by an image of SpaceX’s starship.

Musk is said to have spent election night with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after becoming one of his campaign’s biggest backers. The tech mogul donated more than £91.6 million during the election cycle to America PAC, a political action committee designed by Musk to support Trump.

The rapper, who spoke at Harris’ rally in Milwaukee on Friday, filmed himself on Instagram as the results were announced, captioning the video: “I hate y’all bad.” She took to Instagram Live to share her reaction throughout the evening. “I swear to God, I’m going to kick your ass,” she said of Trump’s voters. ‘Get away from me! I’m tired of you! Burn your damn hats, motherfucker.”

Of Harris, she said: “I just hope she knows no matter what happens tonight, millions of people are proud of her.” Adding: “Women all over the world are proud of her. Women of color are proud of her.”

Known as the King of Horror for his popular novels, King – who has been a notable critic of the president-elect in the past – shared a post with respond to the news.

“In many stores you see a sign that sells beautiful but fragile items: LOVELY TO LOOK AT, LOVELY TO HOLD, BUT IF YOU BREAK IT, THEN IT IS SOLD. The same can be said about democracy,” he wrote.

Throughout the race, King has criticized Trump and his high-profile supporters, among other things Elon Musk. He called Trump a “dangerous” and “terrible” person and suggested that the Republican candidate should have dropped out of the race, as President Biden did in the summer. About Musk, King shared on X: “The Musk guy has posted 3,000 times on Twitter in the last month. Most are pro-Trump disinformation and outright lies. Remember, he has skin in the game. Please consider his messages accordingly.”

“Why? Give me your reasons why????? My child is crying because her rights as a woman might be taken away. Why? And if you don’t agree, please unfollow me,” says the Married With Children actress and Bad Moms wrote on X.

“Please unfollow me if you voted against women’s rights. Against the rights of the disabled. Yes that. Unfollow me because what you did is unreal. You don’t want these kinds of followers. So yes. Done, she continued.

The Successor actor appeared as a guest on Channel 4’s election coverage and glared at his fellow guest, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson while defending Trump.

When asked to give his opinion, the Scottish actor said: “We have to make sure he doesn’t come in because he is a monster, he really is. He is crazy, he is insane, he wants to be a dictator.”

“I think he’s lost it, to be honest. I think he’s very mentally unstable, and I think he has been for a while. This is not a man who should be president of the United States, not at all. He’s untrustworthy, he’s a convicted felon. I’m shocked.”

After the news broke, Midler shared a quote from journalist HL Mencken on idiot.”

The Riverdale actress shared her disbelief at X after Trump’s lead grew throughout the evening. “I cannot fathom the feelings of the women who came forward about their sexual assault by Trump. Seeing millions of people voting for their abuser,” the 28-year-old wrote. “My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I’m so sorry.”

Her post drew criticism from many, some of whom said they unfollowed her and others who said she should “stay out of politics.” She sent several responses, including “Bye!!! Never come back!” and “suck my dick.”

Musk is not the only billionaire in Trump’s corner: in addition to hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, VR entrepreneur Palmer Lucky, businessman and television personality Mark Cuban also congratulated the president-elect.

“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump. You won fair and square. Also congratulations @elonmusk. #Godspeed,” Cuban wrote on X, despite the billionaire coming out as a Harris supporter during the campaign.

In response to the news, the author of His Dark Materials simply posted to X: “Goodbye, America. It was nice knowing you.”
