Dramatic arrest: police arrest child abuse suspect after shooting

A man accused of raping a four-year-old girl was arrested by police after a dramatic encounter involving gunfire. The incident took place after the suspect, identified as Sanju, allegedly abducted the child from her house while she was sleeping, sparking a nationwide manhunt.

Police were able to surround Sanju late Wednesday evening. When confronted, he opened fire, wounding a police officer. When law enforcement returned fire, Sanju also suffered a gunshot wound. Both he and the injured officer were taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

The initial police interrogation revealed that Sanju had gained access to the house through the roof before taking the child to a remote field. The family, who were unable to locate the child, found her a kilometer away the next day, prompting police intervention and medical intervention for the girl. Charges have been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
