The Arizona Town That Inspired ‘Cars’ Awaits Your Visit

In 2006, we were introduced to Lightning McQueen and the charming town of Heater Springs in the Disney/Pixar movie “Cars.” And if you’re like me, you’ve always wondered “what town is Radiateur Springs supposed to be in real life?”

It turns out our answer lies on Route 66!

Seligman is often called the “birthplace of Route 66” and features many of the classic Americana sites and establishments that influenced the creation of the fictional town in the film. Other towns along Route 66 also contributed to this inspiration, capturing the essence of the historic highway and its unique, nostalgic charm.

You’ll definitely want to take a look around Seligman, because not only is it rich in history (come on! It’s Route 66!) but it turns out the town is totally bent on the whole universe “Cars” and invites fans of the film to stop and admire the view!

And if you’ve ever wondered if the Cozy Cone Motel was also inspired by real places, you’re in luck. In Holbrook, Arizona, you can stay in your own cozy cone. In fact, it’s a wigwam!

The story is said to be inspired by Seligman native Angel Delgadillo’s own memories of the town of when businesses began to wither after the creation of Interstate 40!
