Tyler Legacy Hosts Track Meet Saturday

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – At Tyler Legacy this Saturday, hundreds of track and field athletes will compete in the third annual Region 6 Track and Field Meet.

It will be hot on the track and in the weather conditions. Coach Toto Brown is careful not to force the athletes.

“We tend to start working, we don’t just run kids. We teach them what to do throughout the week, hydration-wise, what to eat, what not to eat. how to save and use what you have.

Coach Brown will tell you it’s not one man’s job. There are volunteers who step in to help develop talent.

Wade Washman is on the Tyler ISD school board and has a son who competes. He is impressed by the volunteers.

“A heart for it, you can tell they love track, and more importantly, they love these kids. Build them up and build the character that the lead builds. Two to three times a week, usually hot and cold, with a little rain perhaps. I mean, they’re here.

It’s the year of the Olympics and this 16-year-old sensation, Quincy Wilson, like these kids, has been developing his speed by participating in training sessions. Hard work can make you an Olympian.

“Through different administrations, if you have an athlete who has that kind of talent and has had the right type of training, they don’t often have the right type of training. With the right type of training, they can excel.

And those who train will pay attention and dream of competing at this level. After all, they have someone they can relate to who is only a few years older than them.
