Two suspected hitmen killed in police shooting

Provincial SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said they were convinced the suspects were on their way to attack a taxi owner in Mahlabathini.

Their vehicle was spotted in the area and police teams signaled them to stop last night.

“The driver stopped in the middle of the road, but within seconds two occupants of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the instructions of the police,” Netshiunda said.

“Tactically astute police officers returned fire and a firefight ensued.

“During the ensuing gun battle, two suspects were shot and fatally wounded. Three firearms and ammunition were found in the suspects’ possession. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that one of the firearms was reported stolen in January 2024 at the Macekane Reserve in Mtunzini.
