Sprague

This week, a man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman at Mound Cemetery.

Dylan Mitchell Sprague, 22, last known address of Marietta, was arrested Monday for his involvement in an alleged assault at Mound Cemetery, Marietta Police Capt. Aaron Nedeff said.

Sprague was charged with strangulation, assault, aggravated battery, obstruction of official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and was transported to the Washington County Jail, according to a Marietta Police Department news release.

No information was available on whether the charges are felonies or misdemeanors.

Sprague’s arrest stems from a disturbance that Marietta police responded to at Mound Cemetery at approximately 12:47 a.m. Monday, according to the release. Police found a woman sitting next to a tree with blood coming from her mouth and other injuries.

The woman was 22 and, according to Nedeff, her last known address was Belpre.

He said the disturbance involved Sprague and the woman, who are also “a young homeless couple” who stayed at the cemetery and they “I got into an argument.”

“(Sprague) beat her pretty good,” Nedeff said.

Sprague had left the scene, Nedeff said, and according to the release, police found him around 4 a.m. in East Muskingum Park and a foot chase ensued.

“(Officers) chased him,” Nedeff said.

According to Nedeff, the woman’s injuries were so serious that Sprague was charged with assault, but they are not life-threatening.

He said she was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital.

The case against Sprague was filed Monday in Marietta Municipal Court and he was arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday, according to court records. He remained in jail until Wednesday afternoon.

Sprague has a preliminary hearing and a hearing to modify a temporary protective order on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. in municipal court, according to court records.
