Melbourne woman shocked after filming her neighbor’s dangerous act while making lasagna in her kitchen

A Melbourne mother was left in shock after noticing “10ft high” flames appearing over her garden fence as she prepared her family’s dinner in their kitchen.

Vonnie M was filming herself making lasagna for a TikTok video when flames could be seen appearing in the frame through the window behind her.

She then stopped cooking to venture into the backyard and investigate, where she discovered that the neighbors had set fire to an unwanted couch.

The mother pointed out that the flames were very close to a wooden fence and right under a large tree.

“Look at this fire affecting the people who live behind us,” she said in the video.

“That massive tree is right there, I think it’s a little dangerous.”

“They seem to think they have everything under control.

“I have the craziest neighbors.”

TikToker Vonnie M was cooking dinner for her family when she noticed huge flames flickering over her fence into her neighbor’s yard. She later revealed that they burned an old sofa.

In a later video, Vonnie M revealed they learned the neighbors were burning the sofa because no one wanted to buy it on Facebook Marketplace and the council didn’t want it back.

A spokesperson for Banyule City Council, the local government area in Melbourne’s north-east where the incident occurred, told Yahoo News it was investigating the matter.

Although backyard fire laws vary between councils, in this area permits can only be issued for burning green waste such as garden waste.

Unauthorized backyard burning can result in fines of up to $400.
