MercyOne Siouxland Wound Clinic is expanding its 20-year-old facility

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City hospital is celebrating the expansion of one of its centers that is more than 20 years old.

MercyOne Siouxland Wound Clinic officially opened its new facility on Wednesday.

The old space, which connects to the new building, consisted only of a corridor and a small waiting room. The clinic now has four times as much space and includes a larger waiting room, a check-in desk and a nursing desk.

Before the renovation, the center saw about 50 patients per day.

With this expansion, staff hope it will help them open the door to more patients who need their help.

“We used to have a number of people with wheelchairs sitting on top of each other, so when they come in they have more space and more space to both expand the number of people we see and to give them a better experience while they are there. here, and hopefully they can get them in and out as quickly as possible,” says Dr. Paul Johnson, medical director of the Wound Center at MercyOne.

The wound clinic provides treatment for many types of wounds that can be caused by burns, trauma or radiation.

This may require multiple treatments, allowing staff to connect with their patients.

“We see them a bit like family, because they are not just patients who come and go quickly… I have one patient that we have been working on for a number of years, and that makes us feel very privileged. We get to know them and get to know their families, and really become like family to patients,” said Dr. Johnson.

The expansion also includes the addition of a new nurse. Selena Meacham started helping out at the center in September.
