HBCU Alumna With Shocking Accusation of JJ Redick

On Tuesday, HBCU alumna and social entrepreneur Halleemah Nash used her X account to allege that new Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick called her a racial slur while they were both students at the Duke University. Although she didn’t call Redick by name, she referred to him by his new position.

“A white man has only called me the N-word to my face once in my life and that was on the campus of Duke University while I was working out with the basketball team. And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world,” she tweeted, sparking a storm in the sports world.

She later took to her Twitter following a significant reaction to her tweet, saying: “For context, this was years ago and I believe we all have space to grow, especially as we mature. university. We live in a world where these exchanges are happening, and where the intersection of race, privilege, and lack of accountability are coming up against this presser.

Reps for JJ Redick spoke to TMZ to immediately refute these claims. “No, that never happened.”

Nash is a Howard University alumna, attending the institution to pursue her bachelor’s degree in business management from 1998 to 2002 through her LinkedIn account. She continued her postgraduate studies at Duke University from 2002 to 2005, culminating in earning a master’s degree in divinity and a certificate in nonprofit management.

According to her website, where her bio is listed, Nash is a speaker, author, and social entrepreneur, and is the founder of Rosecrans Ventures, a startup that provides coaching and career preparation to underrepresented Gen Z talent. Prior to her entrepreneurial journey, Halleemah successfully managed a variety of large-scale projects in roles including executive director at iMentor, executive director of iF Charities, vice president of strategic initiatives at the Chicago Housing Authority, youth pastor at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, and community relations manager at the Chicago Bulls.

As a consultant, she has led projects for Nike, the Chicago Blackhawks, the City of Compton Mayor’s Office, the United Nations, Morgan Stanley, the City of Compton, Northwestern University, and famous brands such as Kobe Bryant, Common, Luol Deng, Joakim. Noah, Nipsey Hussle and Kendrick Lamar. With over 12 years of social impact work, she has created opportunities for over 11,000 young people across 4 continents, 7 countries and 9 states.

JJ Redick joined the Duke Blue Devils in 2002, eventually becoming a fixture on the team led by legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2006. Nash and Redick both attended Duke from 2002 to 2005.
