Woman wins $1 million lottery prize after finding forgotten ticket in her purse

CHICAGO (Gray News) – An Illinois woman picked up everything on her list while at the grocery store, including a bonus lottery jackpot.

According to the Illinois Lotterythe woman, who wished to remain anonymous, bought the winning ticket while shopping at a Jewel-Osco supermarket in the Elmhurst area on Oct. 20.

The lucky player ultimately matched all five numbers in that evening’s drawing to score a $1 million prize.

The winning numbers were: 2-3-24-25-28.

And the winner said she forgot about the ticket until she checked the numbers a few days later.

“I put the card in my bag and completely forgot about it,” she said. “A few days after the draw I saw the ticket in my bag and checked if it was a winner.”

The lottery player said she was shocked to see how much her ticket was worth after scanning it into the lottery app.

“I immediately saw $1 million on the screen and I was completely shocked,” she said. “I scanned it again and immediately started crying. I thought, ‘This is incredible.’”

According to lottery officials, the woman won the $1 million prize while playing the Lucky Day Lotto game.

Now the winner says she has big travel plans.

“What I’m most excited about is being able to afford annual trips to my favorite place in the whole world: Ireland,” the woman said. “I can now look forward to these trips every year.”
