Iowa fans suspect Caitlin Clark’s Jersey Retirement Banner is ready to be unveiled

Wednesday was a great night for the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team.

Not only did they play their first game of the 2024-25 season (a 91-73 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies), but it was also their first game in four seasons without current Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, the first game That Jan Jensen won as head coachand the 2023-24 Iowa team’s journey to the Final four of the NCAA Tournament was honored with a banner hanging from the rafters before the match started.

Although Clark wasn’t in the building for the Hawkeyes’ win, her presence was certainly felt in Carver-Hawkeye Arena all evening.

However, a few Iowa fans noticed something that seemed to be hanging from the rafters: Caitlin Clark’s retirement jersey.

Iowa announced that Clark’s jersey would be immortalized at her alma mater just three days after her final game arrived at the school.

“There will never be another 22,” the team said wrote on social mediamaking Clark just the third player in Iowa women’s basketball history to have her number retired (along with Megan Gustafson and Michelle Edwards).

While the date for the retirement ceremony has not yet been announced, it appears that Iowa has already put up the banner, waiting to be unfurled.

X user @ICHawkeye posted a photo of the wrapped banner with the caption: “Do you see what I see? #CarverHawkeyeArena”.

They weren’t the only fans to notice this, because X user @ouatdemii added another photo and wrote: “The I REPEAT CC jersey is up, and so are the last four banners to be put up, I don’t know when “.

“Yes. Ready to drop the 22!!” one fan responded.

Given her school’s preparation, it appears to be only a matter of time before the retirement ceremony of Clark’s No. 22 jersey takes place.
