Mamasdonuts Hastings owner delighted after 300 doughnuts for cancelled Matariki event sold out in 20 minutes

Wednesday wasn’t a day their Hastings store was open, but Whiu put a call out on social media to see if the community would still come out and buy them and make up the loss.

“We had to come up with a little plan to sell them all. »

“Soon, people flocked to the store and the donuts sold out in record time. We had a big line out the door and my phone was ringing,” Whiu said.

Within 20 minutes, all 300 donuts were sold, and people continued to come out to support them.

In a Facebook post, Whiu said she “could cry” after seeing the response and thanked the community for braving the rain to help her business.

“I followed up with a story thanking everyone for the overwhelming response and told them to remember that we were still open for the next three days,” she said.

Thursday was also pretty busy, Whiu said, and she expects a few more people to come Friday and Saturday as well.

Mamasdonuts Hastings celebrated its fifth anniversary in June this year after opening a store opposite Hawke’s Bay Hospital in 2019.

Whiu, who was born and raised in Hawke’s Bay, discovered Mamasdonuts in Hamilton while visiting friends and decided to open a shop here.

The company offers takeout and catering orders with various flavors and toppings, including salted caramel, blueberry and apple cinnamon.
