MasterChef viewers slam ‘really unfair’ twist in immunity challenge: ‘disadvantaged’

THE Chef The crew are back in Australia after their whirlwind trip to Hong Kong and the judges wasted no time in throwing down another challenge for the contestants to win the final immunity chance of the week. With Nat and Darrsh already safe, it was up to Lachlan, Mimi, Harry, Pezza and Sav to fight to safety after Sunday’s elimination.

The challenge consisted of a draw where participants had to choose two mystery ingredients inspired by Hong Kong and create a dish with them. Sav, who missed the overseas trip, found herself with some shrimp paste and okra and got to work making something that will hopefully see her on the gantry next Sunday.

However, several viewers took offense to her participation in the challenge, as she missed the immunity tests the contestants had to undergo while in Hong Kong.

“Why is Sav going for immunity she should go straight to elimination isn’t that just sorry,” one disgruntled viewer wrote on Facebook.

“Seems a bit unfair that Sav misses 3 Hong Kong cooks and still has a chance to be immune, while others who missed cooks go straight to elimination,” someone else wrote on Reddit before clarifying that his comment was not “hate”. comment” for Sav.

On X, some fans echoed the idea that it was unfair for Sav to have a chance at immunity, given that other contestants had to be directly eliminated after missing cooks.

“So people are running out of cooks and going straight to elimination, but why does Sav still have a chance at immunity? This seems really unfair,” someone wrote on the platform.

“So Sav doesn’t even need to automatically enter elimination!” another noted.

Although some thought it wasn’t right that Sav had the chance to win immunity, others were quick to jump to his defense and explain that in reality, this whole thing was beyond reproach.

“It’s because she didn’t miss any cooks that had elimination consequences, I think (when they were in Hong Kong), otherwise she would have been in the next elimination anyway,” someone explained. ‘A.

“It was spot on,” another person added. “She didn’t miss an elimination cook. She missed a trip and immunity cooks. The only thing that wasn’t fair this week was that Nat was in a team challenge so one of others has lost his immunity.”

“Because the others were preparing for immunity, not the final three for elimination. A completely different situation. She was at a disadvantage and missed immunity twice. The others had three chances, she only had one only one,” said a third person.

Viewers began wondering if Sav would be heading to Hong Kong after noticing she didn’t appear in any of the teaser videos.

“What happened to Sav?” one person asked, while another added: “I hope everything is okay with Sav.”

“I’m so freaked out I don’t see Sav in any of the caravans in Hong Kong,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fan posted a theory on X that Sav may not have been allowed to travel to Hong Kong due to her Sri Lankan citizenship – although this has not been confirmed.

“It is possible that Sav is an Australian permanent resident who still holds a Sri Lankan passport, in which case her ‘personal reasons’ could be a lack of passport privilege,” the viewer explained. “The visa process for Sri Lankan citizens wishing to visit Hong Kong is complicated and expensive.”
