Delhi man shocked to receive ₹30,000 electricity bill: ‘How is this possible?’ | Tendency

The scorching summer in Delhi has taken a toll not only on the health of its residents but also on their pockets. A Delhi man was shocked to receive a bill for ₹30,000 for the month of June. He shared his pain – and a screenshot of the BSES message – on Reddit two days ago, where it left many others stunned in turn.

“Pain. How is this possible,” the man wrote, sharing a screenshot of BSES Rajdhani, which shows the amount of ₹30,280 must be paid before July 9.

Delhi experienced one of the hottest summers on record before light showers brought relief to parts of the national capital. In June, several Delhiites complained of boiling water from taps and ineffective air conditioners in the face of extremely high temperatures.

The Reddit user said he replaced his 16-year-old air conditioners with new models, thinking it would save him money. This apparently was not the case. He then explained that his house has four air conditioners, at least two of which are on at the same time.

“I bought new air conditioners thinking it would save money. It actually didn’t save money. Four ACs, at least two running at a time,” he wrote on Reddit.

In the comments section, he also pointed out that his new air conditioners had a five-star rating, which in theory should have helped him save on electricity.

This is not the first time electricity bills have skyrocketed in the National Capital Region. Earlier this month, Jasveer Singh, co-founder of app Join Hood, caused a stir on social media when he said he received a bill for ₹45,000 for a month.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people have complained of frequent power cuts in the city as authorities struggle to meet demand.
