A typhoon can make swimming across the harbor no longer possible

Organizers of the annual cross-harbour swim, scheduled for Sunday, said the event will be canceled if a tropical cyclone warning is in effect.

They said the race will be canceled if the standby signal No. 1 or higher, or the red or black rain storm warning, is in effect at 6 a.m. that day.

The race will also be canceled if there is red tide in the harbor or if there is any other circumstance that makes the race unsuitable to take place.

The Observatory said the No. 1 standby signal will be issued between noon and 3 p.m. on Friday when Super Typhoon Yinxing comes within 500 miles of Hong Kong, and the current forecast calls for the storm to be up to 250 miles from the SAR by Saturday. Sunday morning.

The organizers of the cross-harbour swimming called on all participants to pay attention to the latest state of affairs.

“If the race is cancelled, an official announcement will be made shortly on (our) official website and on (our) social media channels,” they said.

More than 4,000 swimmers have registered for the event that takes place on Sunday morning. They go from Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui.
