Doha: The Standing Committee on Budget and Planning of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) concluded its meeting organized by the Shura Council in Doha yesterday. The two-day event was chaired by Shura councilor and APA vice-president HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, Chairman of the Committee.

Attendees approved equal entries for all member states and a proposal by the Shura Council to amend some provisions of the APA Statute to move to majority voting instead of unanimity on draft resolutions, with each APA member state receiving one vote. The draft changes are scheduled to be submitted to the APA Executive Council before being submitted for approval at the upcoming APA meeting in February in Baku. The meeting was attended by Shura Councilor and Qatari-Asian Parliamentary Friendship Group member HE Essa bin Ahmad Al Nassr and Shura Councilor HE Omair bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi.

The participating delegations also visited the Shura Council headquarters, where they were briefed on the council’s work. They also visited the Shura Council exhibition, which highlights its history since its founding.
