Jamahal Hill Sends Message to Alex Pereira: ‘If You Lose, I Don’t Care If They Give Me a Title Shot — It’s You and Me’

Jamahal Hill’s priorities right now are to recover from the injury that kept him out of UFC 303, then do everything he can to secure a rematch with Alex Pereira.

Ahead of Saturday’s event, where Hill was originally scheduled to face Carlos Ulberg before a knee injury sidelined him, the former UFC light heavyweight champion posted a lengthy video in response to a breakdown from Demetrious Johnson regarding his loss to Pereira at UFC 300. Hill also offered his take on several different angles of the fight to explain why he thought he was actually going all in until Pereira landed a punch that knocked him out just minutes into the fight.

Hill promised this would be the last time he spoke about the fight.

“I’m literally just saying this to say what happened,” Hill said on his YouTube channel. “To highlight from my point of view what happened and what it is about. The thing is, “Oh, he can’t accept defeat, he has to face it” – the hardest thing I ever had to eat in this game was every time I lost my “0” to Paul Craig . When I was sitting there and I was locked into submission and I couldn’t use my arm, I was like, “Oh shit, I’m about to lose.” I literally remember that feeling. I remember it very well and it was a very, very difficult thing for me. I went out and partied with this man that night. I then enjoyed life with this person.

“Accepting defeat is not a problem for me at all. I just say what happened.

Much of the breakdown focused on the ending sequence. Hill threw a kick that hit Pereira low, prompting referee Herb Dean to step forward to potentially stop the fight for a foul, but the Brazilian stopped him from doing so.

A moment later, Pereira delivered the blow that put Hill on the ground for the final time.

“I don’t blame him for being a gutsy competitor,” Hill said of Pereira. “Sure, it sucks to be on the crappy side, but he did what he had to do. He pushed his brand further. He kept the belt where it is and all that. Big kudos to him.”

Looking ahead, Hill first needs to get back into shape, but he’s keeping a close eye on the main event of UFC 303 when Pereira faces former champion Jiri Prochazka for the second time.

Pereira knocked out Prochazka in their first meeting of 2023. Pereira is now looking to make it two in a row after the 205-pounder stepped up on short notice to fill the main event void left by Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from his fight against Michael Chandler.

Hill doesn’t seem to care much about who wins or loses, and the same goes for the title, but he promises there’s some unfinished business he needs to take care of with Pereira.

“Good luck to you in your fight, in this rematch with Jiri,” Hill said, addressing Pereira directly. “Because if you lose, I don’t care if they give me a title shot – it’s you and me. You win, I’m going to go starch the next one and I’ll see you soon. You lost? I’ll see you real soon.”

It is not yet known how long Hill is expected to be sidelined due to his injuries.
