Electrocution incident: express bus company fails ICOP audit

PUTRAJAYA: The express bus company involved in the Penang electrocution incident has failed the audit of the Occupational Safety and Health Industry Code of Practice for Road Transport Activity (ICOP) 2010 conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the company is now facing the suspension of its operating license following the audit result.

“The ICOP audit was done and they (the company) failed. JPJ will refer the matter to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) as the authority to suspend permits lies with APAD.

“APAD will issue a letter of action against them for a period of time, during which they can appeal to the Minister’s Office,” Loke informed reporters after attending the Cahaya Kasih MADANI program and the monthly meeting of the Ministry of Transport on Thursday (November 7).

Following the incident on November 1, Loke stated that the ministry had established a special task force and ordered APAD to immediately suspend the operation of the bus in question to allow further investigation by JPJ.

“All our actions are based on legal provisions and we will fully comply with existing processes and procedures.

“No one will be a victim, the most important thing is to ensure public safety,” he said. – Bernama
