Two Golden police officers hit, one dead in crash on Colorado highway

GOLDEN, Colo. (KKTV) – Two Golden police officers were struck by a car and one died while working a crash scene Wednesday evening, according to Colorado State Patrol.

CSP said three Golden Police Officers were on Highway 58 to assist with a crash just east of Washington Avenue around 4:56 p.m. One officer was in a police car while the other two officers were outside at the scene of the crash.

Another vehicle passed on the roadway, striking two officers and forcing them under the original crashed vehicle. CSP said one died at the scene and the other was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.

CSP said the driver was arrested for possible driving, and their Vehicle Crimes Unit continues to investigate the crash.

As of 9 p.m., the intersection was closed and CSP said there was no estimate of when it would reopen.
