Predicting Texas’ Next Commitment After F Arthur Kaluma

Predicting Texas’ Next Commitment After F Arthur Kaluma

High school recruiting and transfer portals for the 2024 cycle effectively concluded this week for Texas basketball and head coach Rodney Terry. Texas landed a commitment in the portal on June 27 from the highest-ranked transfer available in the portal this summer, former Kansas State Wildcats junior forward Arthur Kaluma.

Kaluma committed to the Longhorns in the portal over the SMU Mustangs and Memphis Tigers. He is the sixth transfer to commit to the Longhorns in this portal cycle. Terry and his staff also signed three high school commitments in the Class of 2024, including Dallas (TX) Link Academy five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson.

After adding recent commitments to the projected roster for the 2024-25 season from the portal and high school recruiting from three-star center Jamie Vinson and Kaluma, all scholarship spots are filled for the Longhorns this offseason. Texas can now focus its efforts and attention on the recruiting process to achieve key 2025 and 2026 goals.

Texas has offered a handful of 2025 and 2026 recruits in recent months. And we’re one step away from the start of summer and fall visits for key players in these two recruiting classes.

Here’s a prediction of the next recruit who will commit to the Longhorns after Terry nabbed Vinson and Kaluma last month.

The most recent offer the Longhorns made to a Class of 2026 recruit was highly touted four-star forward from Melissa (TX) Austin Goosby. Texas offered the little brother of second-year football offensive tackle Trevor Goosby on June 22.

Texas joins the Florida State Seminoles, Kansas State, SMU, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M Aggies among the six Division 1 schools that offered Goosby early in his recruitment.

There are a couple of assets the Longhorns have in this recruitment after offering Goosby last week. First, that connection to his brother playing football in Texas could be a factor that gives Terry and his staff another good selling point for Goosby.

The fact that the Goosby family really loves Austin is also a plus. Goosby lives just a few hours’ drive from Austin on I-35 in the DFW metro area. Going to school in Texas would therefore be a manageable travel distance for her family and friends in the area.

“Texas said they liked my style of play and were excited to recruit me. I think I’d be a good fit as a big guard.”

Goosby really seems to think highly of Texas since the Longhorns offered him this summer. He likes the idea of playing as a big guard or winger in Terry’s fast, fluid offensive system and in transition (according to On3).
