Henniker traffic stop leads to drug arrest, K-9 unit detects narcotics

HENNIKER — A routine traffic stop on Route 202&9 led to a drug arrest after a K-9 police dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics on May 26.

Officer Christian Kyle of the Henniker Police Department stopped a vehicle for a missing inspection sticker.

Suspecting that the driver was in possession of drugs, Kyle called a drug-sniffing dog for help.

Sgt. Nick Hodgen and his K-9 partner, Voight, of the Hillsboro Police Department responded to the request.

Voight sniffed the exterior of the vehicle and reported the presence of controlled narcotics, leading to the vehicle being seized pending a search warrant.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, chose to take a ride offered by the police.

However, during the process, a small bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl was discovered in the individual’s pocket.

The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

After the search warrant for the vehicle was approved, authorities found several more bags containing substances believed to be illegal drugs.

The driver now faces additional charges, including possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.
