A Kia sedan with California registration was stopped on Fairview Drive near I-580 for a traffic violation.

According to a press release, the driver, Brandy Martinez, appeared nervous and was visibly shaking while detectives spoke with her. The passenger, Emily Rochin, answered simple questions that were inconsistent with driving the car. Both women admitted there were drugs inside the vehicle.

K-9 Cash was used during the traffic stop. The deputy gave the car a positive alert indicating the presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and investigators discovered 11.7 pounds of fentanyl. The narcotics consisted of a mixture of fentanyl tablets and fentanyl powder. The fentanyl was packaged in such a way that it looked like someone was trying to smuggle the drug.

Martinez and Rochin were booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of:

• Possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl)

• Trafficking in a controlled substance of more than 400 grams (fentanyl)

• Conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act.
