Woman with dementia meets her great-grandson

Woman with dementia meets her great-grandson

A 93-year-old woman with dementia traveled the world to meet her great-grandson. Her mom filmed their instant bond, and it’s absolutely beautiful.

Many children never get the chance to meet their grandparents. But a little boy named Teddy had the chance to spend time with his great-grandmother, who is almost a century older than him.

According to a TikTok video, despite her dementia, his “grandma” flew from the UK to Australia to meet the little boy in person, and what her granddaughter, Carrie Charleston, captured on camera was magical.

A viral clip shows Nan and Teddy sitting on the floor, completely lost in each other as they laugh and play games. Nan swings her arms and makes silly noises while Teddy tries to imitate her and laughs.

In the caption, Carrie explains that Nan came “alive” when she sat with Teddy.

The ‘true love’ between woman and great-grandson is heartwarming

The video has been shared dozens of times on social media and people are touched by the way Teddy appears to be caring for his great-grandmother.

“True love is what we all need ❤️👏,” someone wrote on Instagram.

“Oh my god, so precious, his little laugh is so cute too,” another commenter shared under the original video.

Carrie shared with ABC News it’s as if her grandmother has “become herself again” when she spends time with the baby, which is not surprising according to recent research.

Doctors have discovered that babies have an extremely calming effect on people with dementia. In fact, many long-term care facilities will use doll therapy to recreate the benefits. When patients hold dolls or spend time with babies, they demonstrate much lower levels of anxiety. They also have increased social skills, eat more, and display higher levels of happiness overall.
