The mother of a girl who was sent home after suffering an undiagnosed head injury and collapsed lung was left stunned when the institution tried to offer her a £20 gift voucher as an apology.

Kirsty McClean has spoken out in dismay after her 12-year-old daughter Mia was discharged from hospital with serious undiagnosed injuries, fearing the worst had happened on Monday (June 24). After a nasty fall off her bike when she failed to brake on a steep descent in Whiteabbey, County Antrim, poor Mia fell into a ravine and had to be dragged to safety by her friends.

The accident left him with terrible injuries, including a massive gash to his head, not to mention a severe concussion, spinal injuries and a collapsed lung.

Despite the severity of her injuries, Kirsty was stunned to see that her daughter had only been given paracetamol and ibuprofen in the emergency room and told to go home. But the next day, a call urged them to rush to doctors because they had neglected his serious injuries.

Mia has had surgery on her punctured lung and is preparing for another operation, Belfast Live reports. Kirsty told the publication: “I am disgusted with the way my daughter was treated at Belfast Children’s Hospital and she is very lucky she did not die from her missed injuries. »

“When we got home I could see that she was clearly very ill and having a lot of difficulty. As soon as we got back to the hospital and were told the extent of Mia’s injuries, I couldn’t believe she was allowed to go home. »

“She has since been on a morphine drip due to the extreme pain she is experiencing and has undergone surgery. We are now waiting for another to take place and she will likely be in hospital for some time before making a full recovery. “

Kirsty revealed she has since received an apology from hospital staff who have told her they will receive further training to understand how they may have avoided such serious injuries.
