Successes against Boko Haram are canceled

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concerns over resurfacing terrorist incidents in the North East.

He also condemned the bomb blasts which led to loss of lives and maiming of other citizens in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

PUNCH Online reported that deadly bomb blasts killed at least 18 people and maimed many others on Saturday in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.

In a statement issued on Sunday via his handle X, Atiku said the suicide bombings in Borno are sad and condemnable, stressing that the gruesome incidents are worrisome.

The former vice president said the achievements recorded in the fight against insurgency are being undone by the Tinubu government due to its less than encouraging posture in the fight against terrorists.

He wrote: “It is sad news that horrific terrorist incidents are resurfacing and, indeed, metastasizing in the North East.

“The suicide bomber attack which allegedly took place on Saturday at a wedding reception, funeral procession and at a hospital is condemned.

“It is unfortunate that much of the efforts deployed against the Boko Haram terrorist sect have been undone, mainly because of the government’s poor posture in standing firmly on the frontline.”

Atiku therefore called on the Federal Government to ensure that the North East does not fall back into the hands of terrorists and become the scene of extreme violence.

He added: “It is therefore important to call on the federal authorities to realise their responsibility and ensure that the North East does not fall back into a theatre of terrorism and extreme violence.

“My condolences go to the families of the victims of these attacks and I pray that God grants peaceful rest to the souls of the departed.”
