BCCI announces INR 125 crore prize money for T20 World Champions India

The BCCI will award the Indian team that wins the T20 World Cup with a bonus of INR 125 crore (approximately $15 million). The BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the announcement in an article on X, a day after India won a thrilling final against South Africa by seven runs in Barbados.

“I am happy to announce a prize money of INR 125 crore for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” Shah said. “The team displayed exceptional talent, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

The ICC had already announced a cash reward of $2.45 million for the winners of this World Cup and an additional $31,154 for each match won (for each team), excluding semi-finals and finals. The ICC prize money is the highest in men’s T20 World Cup history, an increase of $850,000 from the $1.6 million England earned in 2022.

Overall, all teams are expected to receive more prize money/participation money in this tournament than previously. The total prize money for the tournament has more than doubled from $5.6 million in 2022 to $11.25 million this year, meaning an increase in prize money for all 20 participating teams.

In second place, South Africa won $1.28 million (up from $800,000 in 2022), while losing semi-finalists Afghanistan and England each received $787,500 (up from $400,000 in 2022).
