Ballacregga Tea Rooms and Restaurant will close when its lease expires

Ballacregga Tea Rooms and Restaurant in Laxey has announced its closure following the tenant’s decision not to renew its lease.

The popular spot, known for its scenic views and proximity to the Laxey Wheel, shared the news on Facebook on Thursday, explaining that the property will close immediately once the search for a new tenant begins.

The owners of the Ballacregga Cornmill complex on Wheel Hill said: “The landlords of The Ballacregga Tea Room and Restaurant advise that their tenant has decided not to renew their lease.

‘Unfortunately the property will close with immediate effect as a new tenant has been found.’

In December 2022, the owners ensured the eatery remained open after their then tenants ceased operations, with the landlords working together to honor Christmas bookings.

The sudden closure was met with disappointment by customers visiting the tea rooms, mainly due to the relaxed atmosphere and historic setting at Laxey Glen Mills.

A regular visitor said: ‘It was one of the first places we discovered when we moved here.

‘Fantastic food and loved people. It’s so sad.’

Another added: ‘How sad, we go for lunch most weeks and it’s always busy! Let’s hope someone is found soon.’
