Nick Sirianni explains why Eagles were silent at the NFL trade deadline – NBC10 Philadelphia

The roster on Wednesday looked exactly the same as the roster on Tuesday.

Howie Roseman was generally active at the trade deadline. From Jay Ajayi in 2017 to Golden Tate in 2018 and Robert Quinn in 2022 to Kevin Byard in 2023, Roseman has been aggressive in his efforts to improve the Eagles’ roster.

With mixed results.

But this year’s trade deadline came and went Tuesday at 4 p.m., with the Eagles stalemated.

Which considering the payout the Eagles got for Quinn, Avery and Tate is probably a good thing.

On Wednesday, head coach Nick Sirianni said the reason they haven’t made a move is simple.

That wasn’t necessary.

“I think that’s a good question for Howie,” Sirianni said. “I know you won’t get him (to talk to him) until the end of the year.

“But looking at it from my side, I really feel very strongly about our team and where we are when we talk through all those different things. I have so much confidence in our team and how he’s done a great job of building it so far that it didn’t feel like there was anything to do at the time.”

The Eagles also don’t have many picks in the 2025 draft. They traded for a 3rdrounder to Washington in August for Jahan Dotson, leaving them 1st– and 2i.e-round choices, the worst of two 3rd-round picks, one 4e and three 5e-round selections.

But more importantly, there is no clear need that would have made it worth giving up the choice for someone who might not produce.

The Eagles are 6-2, they have won four games in a row and they are 6e in the NFL on offense and 3rd on defense heading to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Sunday.

They certainly don’t need a quarterback, tight end, running back or offensive lineman, and they’ve already traded their Day 2 pick for a wide receiver. On defense, they are in the secondary, their linebackers are playing lights out and the guys up front have been excellent lately.

There were guys available, but when you linked the need to what it took to recruit, it didn’t add up.

“I feel really good about the people we have here,” Sirianni said. “I feel strongly about the starters at the positions and the depth (at those) positions, so that speaks to the work Howie and his staff have done from the draft until now.”
