AKIPRESS.COM – A bridge collapsed in the Kok-Jar rural municipality of the Nookat district of the Osh region on June 30, eyewitnesses reported to Turmush.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, around 8:30 p.m. the Naiman Bridge, located at km 63 of the Osh-Razzakov highway, was destroyed due to mudslides.

The ministry said the bridge collapsed during efforts to mitigate the impact of the mudslides. As a result, the road is closed in both directions.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications said the bridge was old and in poor condition, and therefore could not withstand the mudslides. “There were no casualties among people or equipment following the collapse of the bridge. Currently, the question of opening a bypass road is being studied,” said the communicated.

According to the latest data, at least nine people died due to mudslides that occurred on June 28 in Nookat. A state of emergency was declared in the district and around 1,400 people were evacuated from the affected areas.
