SHAH ALAM – The planned return of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) after last year’s chaos with Matty Healy’s stage drama has been scuppered by the 17th coronation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, which unfortunately falls on the same day.

The coronation falls on the same date, July 20, as the scheduled celebration.

Organisers Future Sound Asia confirmed that the Central Agency for Foreign Artists Permits (Puspal) had informed them of the restriction on concerts featuring international artists that day.

“Due to the nature of the GVF, which involves numerous touring concerts over several days, it is not possible to reschedule the festival. As a result, Future Sound Asia announces the cancellation of the festival.

“All GVF ticket buyers will automatically receive a full refund via the payment method used for their purchase,” the organizer said in a statement today.

The cancellation marks the second consecutive year for GVF.

GVF 2024 was supposed to take place at Resorts World Awana in Genting Highlands.

Scheduled performers included Alec Benjamin, Talitha, Peach Pit, Ylona Garcia, Joji and Russ.

In 2023, the festival was cancelled after the opening day due to an incident involving British band The 1975 frontman Matty.

Matty’s criticism of Malaysia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) laws and his on-stage actions led to the band being blacklisted in the country.
