The US police’s first patrol ends with a suspected drunken driver accident

A newly minted police officer’s first solo patrol ended when an accused drunk driver crashed into his vehicle, Colorado authorities said.

The officer, who had graduated almost a year of training five hours earlier, he was sitting in his patrol vehicle checking a license plate when a black BMW crashed into it at 11:09 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, Avon police said in a news release.

The officer hit his head during the collision and was taken to a hospital, police said.

An Eagle County sheriff’s deputy and a Colorado State Patrol trooper investigated the crash and arrested the 20-year-old other driver on charges of driving under the influence and careless driving, police said.

Police said both vehicles had to be towed.

Police said the officer showed “exemplary dedication” during his first solo patrol.

Avon is located about 105 miles west of Denver.
