The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update on the incident that left the Omaha teacher dead

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis will hold a press conference Thursday morning to share more details about the death of a Westside special education teacher in a domestic violence incident that ended in a shootout.

Officers found 45-year-old Rebecca Geiger dead in her home in the Chalco Hills area after shots were exchanged near South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway in the early morning hours.

Authorities said Geiger’s 19-year-old daughter called 911 to tell operators that her father, 44-year-old Rory Geiger, had shot her mother — and that he had pointed a gun at her.

Officers then entered the home and found Rory Geiger deceased.

6 News was first on the scene that morning. The couple’s two daughters were in the house when the shooting began. Officials said the girls may have been in serious trouble.

Officers found several weapons in the home. Authorities had been to the house about a month earlier for an incident and were told not to return.

Investigators looked at body cameras worn by the officers, as well as cameras inside and outside the home. Previously, they were unsure whether Rory Geiger’s fatal wounds were self-inflicted or from a shot fired by a Sarpy County sheriff’s deputy.

Five officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, authorities said. None of them were injured.

A special education teacher and her husband were both killed in a shooting that authorities say stemmed from a domestic violence incident.

Rebecca Geiger was a special education teacher who had just started her 10th year at Westside High School.

“She was just a very friendly teacher,” Elizabeth Power said Westside Community Schools. “She was so good at helping her students feel seen and loved, like they belonged here at Westside High School, which is so important for every student, especially her students.”
