Marquette County Board of Canvassers begins certifying election results

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Election night may be over, but procedures are still taking place to ensure every vote is accurately counted.

The Marquette County Board of Canvassers began certifying the election results Thursday. The board is tasked with ensuring that everything was done correctly and legally on election night to ensure that the results are accurate.

Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma says part of the job is identifying and considering write-in candidates.

“We are going to investigate all the candidates who were write-in candidates and give them the right votes,” Talsma said. “Some races are only dependent on entries, so we will have all that done in the certification and the canvas as well.”

The board will meet again on Tuesday to officially determine the results, because it must wait at least six days after the elections.
