Jodi Matterson’s New Silent Indie Fireworks Strikes Development Deals With ‘Wolf Like Me’ and ‘Alice Hart’ Creators and ‘Bluey’ Lead Exec

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE 4:17 a.m. PT, July 2: We have more details on Jodi MattersonSilent Firework’s new indie band.

The independent company has developed partnerships with two executives with whom Australian executive Matterson worked at former company Made Up Stories, and another with a key executive behind children’s series. BlueAdditionally, we have heard that Matterson has raised a capital fund for the financing.

Matterson will work with A wolf like me writer, creator and director Abe Forsythe and Glendyn Ivin, who directed all seven episodes of the Prime Video drama series The Lost Flowers by Alice HartHe is also in development on projects with Libbie Doherty, who is executive producing Blue and former head of the Children and Family department of the Australian public broadcaster ABC.

Forsythe is an actor, producer and director whose credits include the 2019 horror comedy Little monsterswith Lupita Nyong’o and Josh Gad. Most recently, he created and wrote the comedy-drama Stan and Peacock A wolf like mein which Gad also stars, as does Isla Fisher.

Ivin won a Palme d’Or for short film at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and most recently directed the film Made Up Stories Penguin in flowersas well as episodes of many television series.

Doherty left the ABC after a decade, during which she oversaw the public broadcaster’s mega-success BlueShe also has credits for films like The Boys from Nowhere.

PREVIOUSLY, 1:23 a.m. PT, July 2: Jodi Matterson has left Made Up Stories, the Australian production company she ran with Bruna Papandrea and Steve Hutensky, to launch her own company.

Matterson is now setting up a company called Silent Firework, which will operate out of Australia. “I’m very excited about the challenge of continuing to tell bold and entertaining stories with collaborators old and new,” she said. “Made Up Stories has played a huge part in my life and I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together as a company.”

Further details about Silent Firework are not yet known, but she is CEO and producer of the Sydney-based company. It has been registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission since April.

Matterson worked with Papandrea and Hutensky for seven years, during which time they teamed up on television series and films such as A wolf like me, Nine Perfect Strangers season 1, The Lost Flowers by Alice Hart, Conflict season 1, The dry And Penguin in flowers. Main photography on Nine Perfect Strangers season two has just ended, while The last anniversary is in post-production. Pre-production on Conflict season two has started.

Matterson joined Made Up Stories as managing director for Australia in 2017, shortly after attempting to secure the rights to Jane Harper’s novel. The dry and discovered that Papandrea had beaten him to it. She brought Little monsters with her, which became the company’s first film.

Made Up Stories began life in Los Angeles, but the addition of Matterson gave him a foothold in Papandrea’s naive Australia, where he continued to make work like Conflict And The last anniversary.

His departure comes amid a hot streak for Made Up Stories, which currently has The last anniversarythe Australian series for streamer Binge that marks a final collaboration with Blossom Films and Kidman and Per Saari’s Fifth Season, and in pre-production a second season of the Australian magazine drama Conflict. Main photography on Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 has just wrapped, we learned. In March, we revealed that the producer had sold an untitled thriller package written by Natalie Krinsky, starring Kim Kardashian and executive produced by her, and we reported that Peacock had bought a limited series The good girlwith Jessica Biel. He is also developing Fiona McIntosh’s novel The Chime Thief in a feature film.

Last year, the company put itself up for sale, but in a recent interview with Deadline, Papandrea said she is no longer seeking outside investment. Made Up Stories has offices in Los Angeles, Sydney and London.
