Imprisoned police officer dismissed from Devon and Cornwall force

Acting chief constable Jim Colwell said: “Simon Mitchell’s actions have brought the police into complete disrepute.

“Trust and integrity are basic requirements for the behavior we expect from our officials.

“The conviction is a very serious matter.

“Violence against women and girls is rightly highlighted as a serious societal problem, and an assault on a woman of this nature is completely at odds with the public’s clear expectations of how an officer should behave, both on and off duty . .”

Mitchell’s details will be submitted to the College of Policing’s Barred List, which will ban him from working in law enforcement, police added.
